Mr. Robert L. Brack retired after thirty-eight years of teaching choral music in public schools.  His last twenty-eight years were spent at Little Rock Central High School.  A native of Brownsville, Tennessee, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Tennessee State University at Nashville.  Mr. Brack also received a Master of Education Degree in Music Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.  Since that time, he pursued additional studies at Tennessee State University, Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  In the summer of 1989, he was selected and granted a fellowship as one of the ten outstanding music teachers nationwide to study at Northwestern University School of Music at Evanston, Illinois.

Mr. Brack received numerous honors and awards from the Little Rock School District for outstanding contributions to education.  He was a 1989 recipient of the prestigious Stephen’s Award for Outstanding High School Teachers in Little Rock School District.  The Central Region Choral Director’s Association recognized him three times as Central Region Distinguished Choral Director of the Year.  At the state level, the Arkansas Choral Directors Association named him twice as Distinguished Director of the Year.

Mr. Brack was recommended and received the honor of being included in two editions of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”.  He was also one of the first three music teachers selected to the Arkansas Music Educator’s “Hall of Fame” in the 2000-2001 school year.  Upon retiring in the 2002-2003 school year, the Little Rock School District Board of Directors named the Choral Music Department at Central High School “The Robert L. Brack Choral Music Department” to honor him for excellence, dedicated service, and for the many lives he touched as Choral Director at Central High School.  The Central High School Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers received many excellent and superior ratings including superior ratings at region and state festivals for fifteen consecutive years.  Robert Brack was a choral director in Swainsboro, Georigia; El Dorado, Arkansas and Horace Mann High School, Hall High School and several junior high schools in the Little Rock School District.  All choirs in high schools where he taught consistently received excellent and superior ratings in performance at festivals.  Many of his former students have pursued music careers as church musicians, music educators, professional performers and recording artists.  Mr. Brack also served as a guest instructor and Choral Music Director at Philander Smith College during the summer and fall semesters of the 1984-1985 school year.

Mr. Brack has served as an All-Region choir clinician and has adjudicated at choir festivals throughout the states of Arkansas, Tennessee and Oklahoma.  He has served the Central Region Choral Directors Association as Region Chairman, Invitational Festival Chairman and served as Vice-President of the Arkansas Music Educators Association for Choral Music.  He holds memberships in professional organizations such as the National Education Association, Arkansas Education Association, Music Educators National Conference, Arkansas Music Educators Association,American Choral Directors Association and is an honorary member of the Arkansas Choral Directors Association.  He is currently serving as a board member of the Arkansas Chamber Singers.  Since retirement, Mr. Brack has composed several choral and solo works.  In addition to involvement in professional organizations, he is active in his church where he serves as organist.  Mr. Brack and his wife Lavell have been married for forty years and reside in Little Rock, Arkansas.
